Subject: Making Iron Repair Texture Mats
1. Read through instructions and make sure all tools and supplies are immediately at hand before starting.
2. Select a smooth seat area without cuts. Clean with diluted Multi Clean and wipe dry.
3. Apply masking tape to the area making a rectangular frame -- 4" x 8" (use the 4" x 4" ceramic tile as a template to lay out correct size, which is one half of rectangle required).
4. Put 8cc of R Compound on ceramic tile. Add three to five drops of R Catalyst from syringe. Mix well with palette knife for ten seconds, periodically scraping the tile and palette knife clean and reblending on the surface of tile. Note: a smaller 6" x 3 _" mat can be made using 5cc R Compound and two to four drops R Catalyst.
5. Using the palette knife, spread mixed R Compound PAPER THIN into masking tape frame. Fill entire frame. Smooth with plastic spreader. Make sure to smooth out any ridges. The back of the mat must be perfectly smooth. Take up masking tape while R Compound is still wet.
6. Let R Compound cure until dry (about ten minutes). Carefully peel up cured R Compound and you have your texture mat. This mat will continue to gain strength for three days. To use immediately, post cure with heat by dragging mat over hot iron a few times.
Note : If your mats are too thick or too small, it may slow down the repair process. Many pro's color code their mats to different manufacturers using a drop of Color Pigment Concentrate. It's an amazing time saver. Many also mark the mats with ink while still tacky for convenient positioning points. Spread mixed R Compound PAPER THIN and smooth inside the entire 4" x 8" frame. Remove tape while still wet. |
